Vivianite, often called the “Corpse Stone,” is a mineral surrounded by an unusually macabre history. Its nickname comes from its natural association with burial environments, decomposing organic matter, bones, and other phosphate-rich materials. Vivianite can form in the oxygen-poor environments created by decay, including bogs, peat, and areas surrounding buried remains.

Because of these associations with burial, transformation, decay, and the passage from one state of existence into another, vivianite has become a particularly evocative stone for those drawn to ancestral work, remembrance, shadow work, transformation, and exploring the cycles of life, death, and renewal.
